I know how important your bridal hairstyle is, so I am sure you will enjoy this interview with Gustave Fouche from Michael Van Clarke, who reveals amongst other things, his favourite celebrity hairstyles and how to get your hair in the best condition possible…

What advice would you give to brides-to-be who don’t have any idea on what bridal hairstyle to go for?

One of the most important things to keep in mind is the feel of your dress and the overall styling of your day. I always tell my brides to look at photos of hairstyles on the Internet to get an idea of what they want. You and your hairdresser might end up selecting something completely different for your big day, but this will give your stylist a better idea of what sort of things you like. The two of you then need to see what will work best for your facial shape and personality, which is just as important. The most popular look for brides is the half-up half-down. But whatever your choice, the most successful styles are those that make you look like you, but the best possible version of you.

If you are doing a bride’s hair on her wedding day, do you always do a trial beforehand? Please explain what is involved?

Yes, I’ll definitely do a trial. The main reason for a trial is that the bride and I can play with ideas on what can work for her on the day. A lot of brides want two different looks for their big day. A trial will give us the option of creating and designing a look that can work for her and also give her the peace of mind that everything will work perfectly on the day.

Do you have a favourite celebrity bride’s hairstyle past or present?

I have three celebrities whose hair I always love. Eva Longoria and Sara Jessica Parker both have impeccable taste and style. And then there’s Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It’s classic beauty that will always be part of any bride’s big day.

How should a bride-to-be get her hair in the best shape and condition before her wedding day?
I usually recommend that brides have a series of intense moisture treatments in-salon starting six-weeks prior to the wedding. Using a good, balanced shampoo and conditioner and a weekly home treatment such as the “3 more inches” range is also recommended.

I like my brides to have some form of colour in the hair. It can be from a hair gloss to a few high-lights or a semi-permanent colour. It helps to ensure the hair look its utmost glossy and healthy. Having a hair trim every six weeks is also a must. This will ensure your hair stays healthy and void of split ends.

Always shampoo the hair the night before your wedding and let it air dry. This will give you the best results and lock in the most moisture.
